Pilot Project - Accredited Childcare Programme
The course is FETAC accredited, funded by Co Kilkenny VEC, a FETAC quality assured provider. It will be delivered on Saturday mornings in Kilkenny City and look at an introductory component as part of the Childcare Award. It will be delivered by tutors who are both qualified and working in the sector. Our network will mentor the students, linking them to male childcare workers to give them first hand advice and experience from qualified men who are working in the sector.
Internationally it has been recognised that childcare modules have traditionally been aimed at female students in regards to recruitment, curriculum and assessment. We hope to challange this in both content, tutoring and support. Participants will emerge with a FETAC Level 5 Childcare Award in "Early Childhood education and Play" , at which point we hope participants will choose to continue studying and / or consider a career as an early childhood professional.
